Ear infections, sinus pain-oh bother!

Well, I feel like I've been out of the loop for the last few weeks from this crazy thing called sinusitis which really equated to a double ear infection in one ear, a single in the other, a sinus infection and oh the pain in my jaw. And thus, I have a question. I have been on 2 different antibiotics to try to kill this. However, it's not gone. The pain in my jaw is a dull persistent ache, mainly in my lower jaw. And my ears, well they hurt on again off again. So does anyone have any ideas on how to get better when antibiotics didn't work? And how to help the jaw pain? Thanks!

I say skip the regular docs and go straight to an ENT. If it's gone this long it's time for an expert. I know of one, but I haven't been to her- if you want the name. Also I had a friend who would get a lot of sinus infections and she went to an alternative medicine doctor. He told her that bacteria love sugar (of course) but that it would benefit her to cut refined sugar out of her diet. Anyway, good luck with that. Being sick is the pits! Let me know if you need anything.

Wow, you poor thing! and to think I kept thinking of you this past week. Ok, here's the general list, I'll get more specific during 'nap time' and email you. Chili peppers break up mucus. Barley soothes the mucus membranes (though it didn't say in the digestive or the ones I think of when the word mucus is used). Onion and garlic reduce inflammation. Lots of herbs have anti inflammatory and other good "anti-'s". So here's an idea for today's menu. Throw some Barley in the pot (or have a fam member buy/bring you a cup or so) and fill it half way up with water. Start it boiling while you chop us a bunch of onion, garlic and chili peppers (as many kinds as you like) and put HALF OF it in the pot. Sprinkle salt or Season Salt over the whole top of the water (about that amount.) Add a couple shakes of all the green herbs in your cupboard including rosemary, and of black pepper. (Do this step again just before serving Plus a couple shakes of Nutmeg) Now breath it in deep!!! Chicken has more than just comfort, so find some (healthy chicken) pieces with bone and put those in the pot with a little more salt.

Now stand there and just breath in all those yummy smells and STEAM. The onion can clear you up quite quickly depending on where some of the mucus is. When the chicken is mostly done and the barley is swelling up (obviously I don't live by a clock), then add the second have of all your onion, garlic and peppers and ANY and all other chopped veggies you can think of.

When the barley is soft you can eat the soup. The chicken should be very well cooked by then and if was white meat has lost most its flavor into the broth. (don't forget to add all the herbs again.)

The most important soup is to always stir it up and drink all the broth. yum and healthy. so many 'deposits'!! I really hope you feel better!

Also, it may not be a bacteria so antibiotics wouldn't work (is that right!???) And your jaw pain may be because your nerves are being pinched with the sinus swelling, so get the swelling down. (warm or cold compresses - breath in steam - hot shower...)
Make sure you are having Nathan massage all your glands from base of your skull, your face, behind your ears, all along your jaw and down your neck and all into your shoulders, chest, back. (with oiled hands - coconut it great). If it doesn't help the problem, it might help you! (and probably him too)

I'm really sorry! Ok, here's what I did for my last episode. Instead of going to the doctor, I took the copay ($15-$20) and went to Walgreens or Rite Aid and got a Neti Pot. It looks like a little teapot or sometimes like an oil lamp. You fill it up with 8oz of water and like a 1/2 tsp of salt. Mix it up. Then the pot should have some instructions and pictures, but basically you tilt your head forward and to the side and put the saline solution up your nose and into your sinus's. It doesn't feel pleasant, but salt kills bacteria. I did it 2-3 times a day for 2 days and then once I started getting better 1-2 times a day. At least it cleared my head for awhile. The people who recommended this to me said they clean their sinus's like this a couple times a week and they don't get sinus infections anymore. Good luck. Call me when your sane again. ~Shauna

I'm glad you're feeling better and that you were able to come out last night for a night on the town! Let's do it again!

Okay, I know this is a little late. But, for next time... Rosemary essential oil. Dilute to as strong a you can handle in a base oil (coconut, olive, vegetable... whatever you have on hand). As with any essential oil, test on the inside of your arm first & 'cut' with lots of base oil if you have a reaction. Now, massage it over your sinuses, your throat, the crease behind your ears, wherever the discomfort lies. Avoid the sensitive area around your eyes and your mucus membranes. I don't dilute mine, but I keep my eyes shut for a few minutes (the rosemary vapor creates an unpleasant 'cooling' sensation in your eyes if they are exposed). Don't use rosemary on little kids & don't use it near bedtime, it has stimulant properties. But, it works better than anything I've ever tried.
